Photonics Department Activities at the 7th IZTECH High School Science Camp

As part of the 7th High School Science Camp organized by İzmir Institute of Technology, Research Assistants Metin Tan and Hakan Bozkurt from the Photonics Department delivered a lecture titled ‘Photonics’ and conducted hands-on experiments.

Lecture and Experiments

  • Photonics Lecture: The lecture explored the historical development of light science and explained the working principles of basic optical setups, aiming to connect students with modern applications of photonics.
  • Experiments:
    1. Solar Cell Characterization: Examining the working principles of solar cells and analyzing current-voltage graphs.
    2. Microscope Construction: Learning about optical imaging systems and resolution calculations.
    3. Characterization of Lighting Devices: Measuring with a spectrometer, understanding LED technology, and exploring color mixing principles.

This event not only increased high school students’ interest in photonics but also inspired the scientists of the future.
