As part of the PHOT 444 – Photonics in Nanotechnological Energy Applications course in our department’s undergraduate program, the Sector Spectrum event, organized in collaboration with the IZTECH Optics and Photonics Society (IZTECH OPS) and IEEE Photonics IZTECH student chapters, was held on Thursday, March 13, 2025. During this event, we had the pleasure of hosting Fırat Es, Deputy Technical Manager of MEM Solar, one of Turkey’s leading companies in the field of solar energy.
Fırat Es emphasized the importance of photonics science and engineering in silicon-based solar cell technologies and highlighted the critical role these developments play in the industry. He also shared valuable insights into recent advancements in crystalline silicon solar cells and the future of semiconductor technologies. Drawing attention to the need for skilled human resources in the sector, he provided important insights about career opportunities and professional development in the field. At the end of the event, he invited students to take part in factory tours and internship opportunities.
This fruitful gathering, which strengthened the interaction between industry and academia, gave students the opportunity to closely explore current technologies and engage with industry professionals. We would like to thank Mr. Fırat Es for his valuable contributions and extend our gratitude to all participants who showed interest in the event.
