As Part of Our PHOT 100 Introduction to Photonics Course We Hosted Öcal Tuna from Şişecam.

As part of the PHOT 100 – Introduction to Photonics course in our department’s undergraduate program, an event was held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in the Integrated Research Center Seminar Hall, organized jointly by the IYTE Optics and Photonics Society and the IEEE IYTE Photonics Society. The event featured Öcal Tuna, an IYTE graduate from Şişecam, one of Turkey’s most established industrial companies.

In his presentation titled “Şişecam Research and Technological Development Function and Long-Term Internship Program,” Tuna shared Şişecam’s vision for research and development based on technology and innovation. Participants gained detailed information about the long-term internship program and were inspired with a forward-looking perspective on future technologies.

Throughout the event, tea, filter coffee, and water were served to the participants. Additionally, in line with IYTE’s sustainability vision, attendees were asked to bring their own cups and mugs. This contributed to Goal 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals, “Responsible Consumption and Production.”

This productive gathering with students and faculty members once again emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and academia. We would like to express our gratitude to our esteemed alumnus, Öcal Tuna, for his valuable contributions.
